Action Anna - 2012 Update

Hi everyone.

I am selling more banana bags in 2012 and have also made a new line of lolly bags that I have named 'Fruity Bags'.   I have made a new design for their packs.   All of my lollies are $2 a bag and every cent goes to protecting land in Borneo as part of the Deforestaction project.

My goal this year is to raise enough money to protect a patch of rainforest the same size as the rainforest in my school.

I am also helping by making my Mum buy products that don't contain palm oil.  I have even changed the potato chips I eat.   We now buy the Red Rock Deli chips because they don't have palm oil in them.   My favourite flavour is the honey soy chicken.

xx Anna

More bananas ready to go

I have been busy making more bags of bananas to sell.   If I can sell them all, I'll have over 200 square metres of forest.

Peekaboo Forest

Today I made a peekaboo forest.   When you lift the leaves, you can find the orangutan family.  The forest is the habitat of orangutans.

Endangered Animals
Translations available in: English (original) | Spanish | Italian | Portuguese | Swedish | Dutch | Arabic

At school I have been learning a lot about animals and their habitats.   I know that some animals are endangered because people are destroying their habitats.  Just like the orangutans.  Other animals are endangered because people want to keep their tusks or furs.

These are some questions I have been thinking about.   I am going to find out some of the answers.

Which animals are endangered?

What are they getting endangered from?

The Pygmy Elephant in Borneo is critically endangered too.   But why? Do they have tusks?  Is this why the are endangered?

I know what endangered means.  It means that all of that type of animals might die and then they would be extinct.   This means that we would never ever see them again.   Sometimes I have trouble saying critically so I say SUPER endangered.   This means we have to do something right now.

My Action Anna Land Map
Translations available in: English (original) | Italian | German | Swedish

Every time I buy a new patch of forest we copy the coordinates on the certificate and look at where the forest is on Bing maps.    Mum is helping me track where my patches of forest are located by adding pushpins on my own map on map on Bing that is called Action Anna's Land Map.    You can see my map here:

I love looking at my map and I am really good at zooming in and out and moving around the map.   After I've looked at where my forest is I zoom in and out on Bing Maps and look at other parts of the world.  Tonight we looked at other parts of Borneo where you can see where the forest has been cut down.   After that, I zoomed out and looked at the whole world.   Dad showed me where the different continents were.   We tried to zoom in to spot the pyramids in Egypt.   We saw Antarctica and Australia where I live.   I won't let Mum or Dad do the looking because it is so easy I can do it all by myself.
